Maya’s career advice: come up with a plan, go to networking events, and do not be scared!

First when I applied, I never got offered an interview. It is al via-via! At my job drinks and snacks every Friday. It is really important to go there and mingle and get to know people and give a good impression!

I did my Bachelor in Barcelona.

I’m originally from Mallorca, so I was already leaving the island to go to a big city, which was a big step. I got an Internship in Leuven, and from there I traveled around and visited Amsterdam two or three times and loved it. The Dutch people were really nice. I fell in love with Utrecht and with Holland in general. I was then convinced to do my PhD.

I really enjoy the PhD program and my project in particular. When I applied for the PhD with my own CV, I did get a response, but I never got offered an interview. Having a network is very important. At my job, we have drinks and snacks every Friday. It is really important to go there, mingle, get to know people, give a good impression, and ask opinions.

My advice: Come up with a plan, go to networking events, and do not be scared. Spam people if you have to and above all, be brave!
